I met Celerity on the journey to Phandalin whilst escorting Gundren's wagon of supplies. Celerity was pretty quiet when we first met and said only that she was on Lathander's mission and that she was his Tool in the world. Sometimes we all think she's a tool too.
She eventually confided that she was on her way to speak to Garielle, a Cleric of Tymora, about a defiled altar in Cragmore Castle.
Celerity, whose name my companions and I soon shortened to Celery, is a Cleric of Lathandar. She is pretty hard to miss as she's a 6 foot tall blue Dragonborn. She seems to forget this fact often.
She also seems to frequently have crazy notions, such as talking to a young Green Dragon we encountered in the ruins of Thundertree. Not sure why as she told me that Dragonborn hate dragons, but she's always seemed a little odd. I wonder if her close communion with Lathandar has addled her brains.
Lathander, whose title is The Morninglord, is the deity of creativity, dawn, renewal, fertility, birth, athletics, spring, self-perfection, vitality and youth. I think Celery can sometimes takes some of these 'virtues' a little too far, especially the self-perfection. Sometimes Clerics need some humility - at least that is what Tyr has taught me. Lathandar also favors those dedicated to removing undead from Faerun. Clerics of Lathandar take the grand sounding title of Dawnbringer. It's quite apt, given they are without fail up at the crack of dawn (or at least Celery is).
That does mean that Celery is always willing to take the last watch, although, when she's worshiping the beginning of a new day, I'm not sure how good a watch she is taking!
Celery completed her mission to Cragmore Castle. We found the defiled Temple, and I spent a week helping her to reconsecrate it. Amazingly, she then gave up her innate Dragonborn ability to bring Carrot back to life. I'm not even sure he wanted to return, but then that wouldn't stop Celery. You don't meet many Dragonborn with no dragon breath!
Over the times we traveled together I have gleamed a little more about her past.
She was born in Baldur's Gate where she lived in a small community of Dragonborn with her parents, who were potters.
Her father returned to his homeland of Djerad Thymar when she was 6 leaving Celery and her mother behind. It was after this that she started taking an interest in Lathandar, having been introduced to his teachings by a Cleric named Ballargo. She was 11 when her mother died and after that she begged to join the Temple and become an acolyte of Lathandar.
She spent time at the Daggerford Temple before moving to Waterdeep. She doesn't speak much of the Temple at Waterdeep and changes the subject each time I ask. I understand it is one of the marvels of Faerun. I’ve not worked out much more about her and her people, but she seems to assume everyone is straight-forward and honest.
She tends to wander about a bit lost most of the time until she gets in her mind to do something and then she is like a dog that won't let go of a bone. She seems driven then.
