Searching for Harshnag

As I rise before the dawn, I see Celery rushing off to her morning devotions in the main auditorium. We are both up before the sun to bring in the dawn of the new day it seems. I begin my day in quiet meditation to Tyr.

I continue to seek a sign from Tyr that I am following the right path, but today doesn't appear to be the day he reveals himself to me. I push my disappointment to the back of my mind and go searching for my brothers from the Order of the Gauntlet, Tyr will speak to me when the time is right.  After several hours searching fruitlessly for any member of the Order, I ask one of Lathandar's acolytes where I may find Onovar Frume, but to my disappointment he is no longer at the Temple. I go to the Nave and sit with the citizens of Waterdeep in quiet contemplation whilst I wait for the others to return.

Celery and Leo appear from different entrances almost at the same time.  Celery looks flustered, and angry.  If I was to hazard a guess, Lathandar's chosen have upset her again.  Leo on the other hand seems excited.  He must have news.  Apparently, he went to the Temple of Mystra.  Whilst there, with the aid of Mystra, he thinks that he may know how Atallia was killed.  Powerful magic users can use a single command to kill creatures instantly.  He says it is an extremely powerful spell, that learned wizards refer to as Power Word Kill.  He surmises that it was probably the Kraken Slarkrethel that cast the spell.  I am unsure, as surely that would mean that Slarkrethel had actually been in Yartar.

Leo suggests we go to the Yawning Portal as that's where adventurers congregate, to see if we can find Force Grey.

The Yawning Portal

We find Enya and Chello, and head out in search of the Yawning Portal.  It's an old stone building with a slate roof in the Castle Ward.  I've written what I have heard, mainly from Leo, of the legend of the Yawning Portal in a separate journal entry.  We enter the Durnan's Inn.  Its quiet at the moment, and we head over to the bar.  Leo enquires whether the barkeep is Durnan?  "No."  "You want Durnan?"  "Yes."  "You want Durnan?"  "Yes" "Durnan!"  "Yes?" "This chap is looking for you", and he points at Leo.  A weathered old chap from across the bar comes over.  "Yes?"

Leo witters on about some important quest he is on, and he is looking for some of the Inn's patrons.  "I don't talk about my customers!"  Leo doesn't seem to be getting very far with Durnan, so  I lean over and interrupt, "We're looking for Force Grey".  "Ah, Force Grey, yes, I can talk about those heroes, everyone knows about them, they're working on something for the Lord's Alliance."  "What would that be?" "Don't know"

"Is the teleportation circle in the black tower myth or truth?"  "Yes, it's true".  "How do we get in?"  "Just knock on the door."

"Are any of Force Grey in the city at the moment?"  "Don't know, not seen them for a bit."  "Who are in Force Grey." "Well, there's an elf, she casts spells.  A fighter, doesn't cast spells.  A dwarf cleric, not seen her for a bit." "Do you know their names?"  "No.  You should ask the City Guard, they would likely know.  I would start there."  With that, he turns his back on us, and goes back to his work behind the bar.

As Durnan has no more to say, we take our leave of the Yawning Portal.  We don't have to go far before we find one of the City Guard. "Excuse me, wonder if you could help me?  We're looking for the members of Force Grey, and we were told the City Guard would know where might we find them?"  "Oh, I haven't seen them for a while.  They have places all over the city.  They're normally called to arms by Blackstaff."  "Who?"  "Blackstaff, the wizard in the Black Tower. Or you could speak to a Captain of the Guard." "Many Thanks, we will try our luck at the Tower"
